Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) has announced the appointment of Subhankar Sen as Director (Marketing), effective immediately. Sen succeeds in the role amid BPCL’s ongoing operational and strategic shifts across its marketing and distribution verticals.

Sen has been associated with BPCL for over three decades and has held various senior positions within the organisation. In his previous role as Business Head – Retail (West), he was involved in revamping BPCL’s retail fuel outlets and exploring new models of consumer engagement, including non-fuel retail initiatives.

He has also overseen BPCL’s lubricants division, contributing to the expansion of the MAK Lubricants brand both domestically and in select international markets. His tenure in this segment included efforts towards localisation and aligning with broader industrial policy goals, including the government’s push for self-reliance.

In addition to his operational roles, Sen has been involved in BPCL’s customer loyalty and branding strategies. He was part of the teams behind several of the company’s retail and digital platforms. His experience also includes coordination with government agencies on initiatives linked to clean mobility and the early rollout of EV infrastructure under BPCL’s purview.

The appointment comes at a time when BPCL, a public sector undertaking with Maharatna status, is navigating market shifts in the energy sector, including changes in fuel demand patterns, renewable energy transition, and the growth of electric mobility.

Sen will be responsible for overseeing BPCL’s nationwide marketing operations, which include fuel retailing, LPG distribution, lubricants, and emerging energy solutions. BPCL operates a large retail network comprising over 23,000 fuel stations and has begun rolling out EV charging facilities at several locations.

BPCL operates three major refineries located in Mumbai, Kochi, and Bina with a combined refining capacity of over 35 million metric tonnes per annum.
