In a major leap for India’s clean tech ambitions, Boson Cell, the country’s first indigenous lithium cell manufacturing company, has launched two high-performance energy storage products,18350 B-30A and 21700 B-50A. The launch comes as part of India’s broader push for self-reliance in energy tech under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.
Manufactured entirely in India, the lithium cells offer up to 1000 recharge cycles, significantly outperforming imported Chinese alternatives that typically last just 350 cycles. Boson’s batteries are now available across retail outlets in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh, with nationwide expansion plans underway by the end of 2025.
Boson Cell is positioning itself at the heart of India’s rapidly growing battery market, projected to hit $9.56 billion by 2030, fuelled by the demand from electric vehicles (EVs), renewable energy systems, consumer electronics, and especially drones. The launch is supported by government-backed programs such as FAME II, the PLI Scheme, and the Drone Shakti initiative.
Speaking at the launch, Guru Punghavan, CEO of Boson Cell, said, “Boson is more than just a manufacturer. We’re building the energy backbone for India’s future, one cell at a time. Our technology is designed to serve everyone, from drone operators to EV users to solar households, delivering safety, performance, and scale.”
The new lithium cells are available in three variants, Economy, Advanced, and Extreme, to cater to a diverse set of users, from large-scale industrial buyers to individual consumers. The products are already compatible with electric vehicles, solar power setups, power tools, drones, and other emerging applications.
The company’s eco-conscious manufacturing process, coupled with local sourcing, ensures a lower carbon footprint, faster delivery timelines, and reduced costs. Boson’s zero-inventory model also means lower overheads for its partners, with a promise of faster turnaround times and lower minimum order quantities (MOQs).
Boson Cell is strategically aligning its growth with India’s surging drone sector, which is expected to touch USD 13 billion by 2030. The company aims to be the battery of choice for drone manufacturers and operators seeking lightweight, energy-dense, and safe alternatives.
With direct-to-consumer sales through platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, and its own website, Boson is also ramping up its digital presence. By 2030, the company aims to capture 10 percent of India’s domestic cell market and become a globally recognized player in energy innovation.
