Haima Automobiles has announced that it has entered into a cooperation with Bird Group to launch a sub Rs-10 lakh electric hatchback in the country named ‘EV1+’. The vehicle will be disclosed at the Auto Expo in Greater Noida.

The battery-powered vehicle is likely to be manufactured at a new facility in Manesar (Haryana), Bird Group educated.

Ankur Bhatia, executive director, Bird Group said, “We have already acquired the land. The vehicle will be assembled with imported kits to begin with but eventually, we want to localise production and participate in the government’s phased manufacturing plan to avail benefits. While the localisation may take time, our target price will be below Rs 10 lakh.”

The vehicle will have a range of 200 kilometers per charge and will be introduced in two to three variants. The first lot of Bird Electric EV1+ would take at least 12-15 months to hit the market.

Bird Electric EV1+ will be powered by a 30kw battery and would deliver 95 nm of torque and a top speed of 120km/hr. The cost of power consumption would be about 60 paise per kilometer, the company said.

While the groups have a technical association at this moment, Bird Group is open to an equity partnership with Haima Automobiles.

“The chairman of Haima was scheduled to visit for the show along with his management team, but unfortunately because of corona virus, the visits have been cancelled. We could have formalized the agreement, but the same has been deferred until the situation improves,” added Bhatia.

Apart from arriving into the electric car market, Bird Electric will also be conveying an electric scooter to the country, which it has developed in-house appealed Bhatia
