Billion Electric Mobility (BillionE), India’s E-Mobility-as-a-Service (eMaaS) platform, in partnership with Hindalco Industries’ Birla Copper Division, has inaugurated Gujarat’s first heavy-duty electric freight corridor.

The 160 km route connecting Dahej and Asoj marks a significant step in the state’s shift toward sustainable industrial logistics. The corridor will deploy a fleet of 15 Ashok Leyland electric trucks with a 55-ton capacity each. Ten trucks will be operational immediately, with the remaining five joining within three months. The initiative promises zero-emission transport while reducing India’s dependence on oil imports.

Sanjeev Kulkarni, CEO, BillionE Mobility, said, “This corridor is more than a milestone, it’s a transformation in large-scale goods movement. Heavy logistics have long relied on fossil fuels, contributing to emissions and energy vulnerability. Electric trucks prove that industrial transport can be both efficient and sustainable. Our partnership with Hindalco paves the way for a nationwide network of zero-emission freight corridors, helping businesses decarbonise while improving efficiency and reducing costs.”

Bishnu Agarwal, Functional Head, F&C Copper Business, Hindalco Industries Ltd., added, “Logistics is the backbone of our operations, and transitioning to EVs helps us cut carbon emissions while improving efficiency. Quieter, low-maintenance, and future-ready vehicles turn sustainability into a business advantage, not just a regulatory requirement.”

BillionE will use ChargeZone’s network with charging stations at Karjan, Bharuch, and a strategic point along the route. After initial deployment, more electric trucks will support secondary transport across Vapi, Daman, and Silvassa, expanding Gujarat’s zero-emission freight network.
