The 132 kV transmission line for power transmission and the 100 MVA, 33/132 kV transformer at Kajra Solar Power Plant in Lakhisarai district, Bihar, have been successfully energised. The plant is estimated to have cost over INR 2,800 crore.
Energy Department Secretary and Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Bihar State Power Holding Company Ltd., Manoj Kumar Singh, stated that the project’s completion was achieved under continuous monitoring by Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. (BSPGCL) and Bihar State Power Transmission Company Ltd. (BSPTCL).
A new transmission line has been commissioned from Grid Sub-station Haveli Kharagpur and Grid Sub-station Lakhisarai to facilitate power flow from the Kajra Solar Power Plant. Alongside this, the 100 MW, 33/132 kV transformer installed at the plant has also been energised. These developments will ensure continuous and uninterrupted electricity supply for consumers in the region.
“Energising this plant is a major step toward promoting solar energy in Bihar and strengthening the state’s electricity system. It will enable residents to receive reliable power throughout the day,” said Manoj Kumar Singh. He added that the plant, equipped with a battery energy storage system, can supply uninterrupted electricity for 4 to 5 hours during peak demand periods.
A senior official from BSPGCL highlighted that Kajra Solar Power Plant is among the country’s largest solar energy projects with integrated battery storage. Its operation is expected to significantly boost green energy production in Bihar.
Under Phase I of the project, a 185 MW solar plant with a 254 MWh battery storage system has been built at an estimated cost of INR 1,810 crore. Phase II, currently under construction, includes a 116 MW solar plant with a 241 MWh battery storage system at an estimated cost of INR 1,055 crore, targeted for completion by January 2027.
Once fully operational, the Kajra Solar Power Plant will have a total capacity of 301 MW, supported by a combined battery storage capacity of 495 MWh, solidifying Bihar’s position in large-scale renewable energy generation.
