Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has announced that the consumers in Bihar will receive 125 units of free electricity starting August 1, 2025. The benefit will reflect in the electricity bill of July 2025 and is expected to benefit close to 1.67 crore households.
“We have been providing electricity to everyone at affordable rates since the beginning. Now, we have decided that starting from August 1, 2025 — that is, from the electricity bill for July — all domestic consumers in the state will not have to pay anything for up to 125 units of electricity. This will benefit a total of 1.67 crore families across the state,” said the Bihar CM in a social media post.
He further that the government has also decided that within the next three years, with the consent of these domestic consumers, solar power systems will be installed either on the rooftops of their homes or at nearby public locations to provide continued benefit.
Under the Kutir Jyoti Yojana, the state government will bear the full cost of installing solar power systems for extremely poor families. “For the rest, the government will also provide appropriate support. As a result, domestic consumers will not incur any cost for up to 125 units of electricity, and it is estimated that the state will have up to 10,000 MW of solar power available over the next three years,” he said.
