Bentley Systems, the infrastructure engineering software company, has announced the launch of a new open API framework and self-service portal for its Blyncsy roadway intelligence platform.

The announcement was made during the Northeast Association of State Transportation Officials (NASTO) Conference in the United States, signaling Bentley’s push to make roadway data more accessible, integrable, and developer-friendly.

The new API framework is designed to enable third-party developers, transportation agencies, and private businesses to directly integrate Blyncsy’s AI-powered analytics into their existing platforms. With the addition of a self-service portal, users can now manage access to Blyncsy’s offerings independently, significantly broadening the solution’s utility and scalability.

Bentley said the new tools aim to drive innovation in sectors such as smart city planning, autonomous vehicle development, transportation logistics, and infrastructure maintenance. Blyncsy, which utilises artificial intelligence and crowdsourced dash camera imagery, offers automated detection and analysis of roadway assets and conditions. Its capabilities include identifying road debris, vegetation, and now, with the latest update, detecting pedestrians and bicyclists. Additional detection features are expected to be rolled out later this year.

Mark Pittman, Senior Director of Transportation AI at Bentley, said the open API will remove integration barriers and promote cross-sector collaboration. “We’re opening the door to broader partnerships that can lead to safer, more efficient roadways through data-driven decisions,” he said.

With the new framework, users gain access to a standardised interface offering rich contextual information about roads, including asset locations and infrastructure condition data. The self-service functionality allows organisations to customize how they interact with Blyncsy’s analytics based on their specific operational needs.

The API and portal are now live and accessible through Bentley’s Blyncsy website. The move further cements Bentley’s role in advancing transportation technology and digital infrastructure, aligning with its broader mission to support infrastructure professionals in designing, building, and operating more resilient systems across the globe.

While Blyncsy primarily focuses on roadway intelligence, its data plays a crucial role in shaping electric vehicle infrastructure by informing charging station placement and supporting power grid planning. Additionally, Bentley Systems has previously partnered with Siemens Digital Grid to develop tools that support distributed energy resource planning, including infrastructure for EV charging.
