Bentley Systems, a US-based infrastructure engineering software company, recently concluded its flagship ‘Innovation Day’ in Hyderabad, showcasing how digital twins and integrated digital workflows are reshaping the future of India’s infrastructure.

The day-long event brought together a high-powered mix of government officials, engineering firms, and infrastructure consultants to discuss how digital transformation is impacting sectors like transportation, water, and urban development.

At the heart of the discussions was Bentley’s digital twin technology, which enables real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and scalable solutions for infrastructure projects. With a strong focus on automation, AI integration, geospatial intelligence, and collaborative platforms, the event reflected Bentley’s vision of supporting India’s shift towards smarter, more resilient infrastructure.

The company’s digital tools come at a time when Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are stepping up infrastructure development. Andhra Pradesh is investing in enhanced regional connectivity, building railways, ports, highways, and airport projects, along with new metro lines and industrial parks. Meanwhile, Telangana is focusing on urban modernisation, road upgrades, and expanding Hyderabad’s transport network with new flyovers and metro links.

The event opened with a welcome address by Kamalakannan Thiruvadi, Regional Executive, South Asia, Bentley Systems, who emphasized the company’s commitment to partnering with India’s infrastructure growth. “Innovation Day is not just an event, it’s a platform to bring together leaders shaping the future of infrastructure,” he said. “As India scales its ambition in digital delivery, Bentley is proud to support this journey through technologies that make infrastructure more intelligent, interconnected, and resilient," he noted.

In his keynote, Abhishek Sinha, Solution Architect at Bentley, showcased the company’s ability to support modern infrastructure, from subsurface modeling and structural engineering to stormwater management, 4D/5D construction visualisation, and AI-driven workflows. He also touched upon the power of Bentley’s iTwin Platform for integrating technologies like IoT, Python scripting, and geospatial intelligence.

One of the highlights of the day was a session led by Amit Shrivastava, Senior Director, Solution Engineering, which featured success stories from India. These included the National Highways Authority of India’s live digital twin platform for managing highway projects, and Orange City Water’s smart water management system in Nagpur, which integrates SCADA and GIS for better performance and transparency.

Demonstrations throughout the event brought Bentley’s technologies to life. In a session on geospatial intelligence, the Bentley team showed how digitally-enabled infrastructure planning can speed up project delivery and improve asset visibility. Another session on linear infrastructure featured workflow automation examples from Jacobs’ engineers Pradeep Devarabhotla and Sowmen Pradhan, and a detailed look at highways and rail solutions from Arth Design Build’s Prithviraj Singh.

The water infrastructure session, led by Biswajit Saha of GKW Consult GmbH, highlighted the role of Bentley’s OpenFlows software in driving performance in India’s smart cities and utility networks. Meanwhile, the structural and geotechnical engineering track featured automation through STAAD.Pro, PLAXIS, and Leapfrog, with real-world use cases from SECMEC Consultants’ Tadepalli Prasanth, especially in the cement industry.

Thiruvadi closed the event by underlining the broader importance of digitalization in infrastructure development. “India’s infrastructure ambitions demand more than physical assets, they require a digital foundation that scales,” he said. “The power of technology to accelerate project delivery, upskill the workforce, and drive data-driven decision-making is key to unlocking a more self-reliant, sustainable, and future-ready India," he added.

As India moves ahead with large-scale national missions like Gati Shakti, Smart Cities, and the Jal Jeevan Mission, Bentley reaffirmed its role as a technology partner for public and private stakeholders. Its continued focus on inclusive, sustainable development aligns closely with the country's long-term goal of Viksit Bharat 2047.
