BAJA SAEINDIA 2025 is gearing up for the physical round (Phase 3) set to take place at the National Automotive Test Tracks (NATRAX), Pithampur, Indore from January 9-12, 2025.
The event will be featuring around 50 mBAJA teams and 20 hBAJA teams. Out of which, one of the key highlights of this event will be the unveiling of India’s first Hydrogen-CNG (HCNG) Baja buggy.
The theme for the year, ‘Fusion 4 Future’, defines the vision of BAJA SAEINDIA 2025, built on four core pillars. Technology is embodied in the four categories: mBAJA, eBAJA, hBAJA and aBAJA, each representing a unique frontier in mobility.
Diversity thrives as students from various engineering disciplines across the country collaborate to design and build all-terrain buggies. Sustainability takes center stage with clean energy initiatives like eBAJA and hBAJA, employing after treatment devices and aiming to reduce carbon footprints through ANSYS Granta. Connectivity ensures deployment of Autonomous, Connected, Electric and Shared (ACES) Mobility, with aBAJA at Centre Stage through ADAS, V2X and various levels of Autonomy.
The journey toward Phase 3 began in June 2024 with the Preliminary Round, hosted by Sri Sairam College of Engineering of Chennai, where teams presented their initial designs and concepts. It advanced to the Virtual Round in December 2024, hosted by Chitkara University of Punjab, where teams were rigorously assessed on static events such as design, validation, cost analysis, Sales Presentation and sustainability, as well as the Virtual Dynamic Event (VDE) using IPG Carmaker.
These comprehensive evaluations tested the technical expertise of the teams and provided crucial feedback, ensuring their designs are refined for manufacturing and fully prepared to tackle the challenges of Phase 3 of BAJA SAEINDIA 2025.
Dr. K. C. Vora, Advisor of BAJA SAEINDIA, reflected, “BAJA SAEINDIA has grown from a single-category event to a multi-category platform fostering innovation and technical excellence. BAJA alumni, many of whom are now industry leaders across the globe, exemplify the transformative impact of this platform. This year, hBAJA takes a leap forward with the introduction of HCNG (Hydrogen-CNG) fuel blend, moving closer to the goal of a 100 percent hydrogen-fueled BAJA by 2030. This milestone, aligned with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, underscores our commitment to sustainable mobility and the advancement of future-ready engineers.”
Under the captainship of Ashish Rai, Convener of mBAJA and Engineer at the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) of Pune, and Dr. Kaleemuddin Syed, Convener of hBAJA and General Manager at Greaves Cotton Limited, the event will begin with a press conference hosted by Acropolis Institute of Technology and Research on 8th January 2025, setting the tone for the week ahead. The inauguration ceremony will take place on January 9, hBAJA Endurance on 11th Jan and mBAJA Endurance on 12th Jan, followed by valedictory ceremony on 12th Jan afternoon, all hosted at NATRAX Pithampur and graced by a Minister, government officials and Industry officials.
Teams will first undergo technical inspections, followed by the brake test, and then move on to dynamic events such as acceleration, Maneuverability, Suspension & Traction and Speciality Event. Concurrently, the finals of static events will be held.
Welcoming everyone to Phase 3, Ashish Rai and Dr. Kaleemuddin said, “It is an absolute delight to welcome all the participating teams, faculty advisors, judges, sponsors and supporters to the physical rounds of BAJA SAEINDIA 2025 hosted at NATRAX, home to Asia’s longest high-speed track. This incredible journey of innovation and learning is made possible through the relentless efforts of our volunteers, committee members, technical teams and NATRAX Staff. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors, partners and supporters, especially our title sponsor, Speed High Performance Petrol from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), whose unwavering support has been instrumental in driving the success of this competition.”
The week will culminate in the flagship four-hour endurance race, a rigorous test of vehicle reliability, durability and performance under real-world conditions. Building on the excitement of the competition, an HR meet will be hosted by Acropolis Institute of Technology and Research on January 13-14, providing participants with valuable opportunities to connect with industry leaders and secure on-the-spot job offers.
