The Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY) has launched a landmark 44.5 MW solar power project in partnership with Kanoo CleanMax Renewables, the largest solar installation globally in the ship repair and shipbuilding industry.

Once completed, the facility will generate more than 71 million kWh annually and deliver savings exceeding USD 2 million, advancing both operational efficiency and Bahrain’s clean energy goals.

Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative o King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs and Chairman of Bapco Energies, hailed the project as a reflection of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s vision for sustainability and innovation. He noted the initiative benefits from the continuous support of Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and demonstrates Bahrain’s leadership in environmental innovation and renewable technologies.

The project will be developed in two phases, 22.5 MW in the first stage, producing over 36 million kWh per year, followed by an additional 22 MW in phase two, bringing total output above 71 million kWh annually.

Ayman bin Tawfeeq Almoayed, Chairman of ASRY, described the initiative as both an environmental and strategic investment. “The project reinforces ASRY’s vision of combining industrial marine leadership with green innovation, strengthening its role as a responsible player in environmental and economic terms,” he said.

Dr Ahmed Al Abri, CEO of ASRY, stressed that environmental responsibility is central to the company’s strategy. “We are keen to launch practical initiatives that support the Kingdom’s green transition,” he added.

From the partner side, Ali Abdulla Kanoo, Chairman of Kanoo Industrial and Energy, said the collaboration underscores trust in Kanoo CleanMax’s renewable energy expertise. “This partnership supports Bahrain’s sustainability vision and enables industries to reduce carbon emissions,” he noted.
