Australian National University, India’s Indosol Solar Partner on Giga-Scale TOPCon Cell Development
Under the agreement, ANU researchers will work with Indosol’s process teams on manufacturing processes for advanced N-type TOPCon solar cells, with the aim of accelerating the transfer of research breakthroughs from laboratory development to commercial production.

The Australian National University (ANU) and Indosol Solar have signed a strategic memorandum of understanding and collaboration agreement to accelerate the development and commercial scale-up of next-generation TOPCon silicon solar cell technologies.
The partnership, facilitated by the India Australia Technology Commercialisation Challenge Pilot Program, will combine ANU’s photovoltaics research capabilities with Indosol Solar’s giga-scale manufacturing operations in Andhra Pradesh, the companies said.
The collaboration will focus on developing advanced TOPCon cell architectures aimed at improving conversion efficiencies and resistance to degradation, with the partners targeting lower levelized cost of electricity for solar projects.
Under the agreement, ANU researchers will work with Indosol’s process teams on manufacturing processes for advanced N-type TOPCon solar cells, with the aim of accelerating the transfer of research breakthroughs from laboratory development to commercial production.
The research will target higher cell conversion efficiencies beyond standard TOPCon baselines, as well as improved resistance to light- and UV-induced degradation.
The partnership will also enable researchers from the two organisations to visit each other’s facilities, conduct joint research and undertake hands-on knowledge exchange.
ANU’s advanced cell designs will be validated on Indosol Solar’s integrated manufacturing lines in India, providing a pathway for the technology to move towards commercial production.
The collaboration is supported by the India-Australia Technology Commercialisation Challenge, part of the India-Australia Renewable Energy Partnership. The programme is funded by Australia's Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water and delivered by CSIRO.
