Singapore-headquartered energy-as-a-service (EaaS) infrastructure platform August Energy and Indian energy efficiency company Energeia have announced a USD 100 million partnership to finance and deliver energy-efficiency infrastructure projects across India, with a particular focus on Cooling-as-a-Service (CaaS) for commercial and industrial (C&I) customers.

The partnership, named August Energeia, aims to address a key barrier to industrial decarbonisation, the high upfront capital required to modernise energy infrastructure.

Under the partnership, August Energy will contribute institutional capital, techno-commercial structuring and business development capabilities, while Energeia will provide energy audits, engineering execution, technology and on-ground sales capabilities.

Through the dedicated infrastructure platform, August Energy will bring capital from European, Japanese and Asian institutional investors, including Aravest, Green Tower, Proparco, responsAbility and Aseem. Energeia will complement this with its IoT-enabled energy audit capabilities and AI-enabled digital platform to develop and manage energy-efficiency projects across emerging markets.

The EaaS model will enable factories and commercial buildings to upgrade energy-intensive infrastructure without making the upfront capital investment. Projects will cover cooling, heating, steam, compressed air, fuel switching and motor-driven systems, along with renewable energy solutions including solar, wind and storage.

Under the model, August Energeia will finance, implement and manage the energy infrastructure, with project economics linked to the performance and energy savings delivered.

The platform will target energy-intensive sectors including pharmaceuticals, automotive, food and beverage, chemicals, cement, steel, hospitality, healthcare, data centres, REITs and commercial real estate.

“Technology to optimise and decarbonise Indian factories and buildings has been ready for years, but high upfront prices, energy savings uncertainty and L1 procurement mandates drastically limited adoption. By shifting the financial model from high-risk CAPEX to predictable, performance-linked OPEX, we are removing the upfront friction and delivering outcomes rather than selling products,” said Sookrit Malik, Co-Founder and CEO, Energeia.

Vishal Jain, Co-founder and Head of India, August Energy, said India’s next phase of industrial growth would require businesses to improve energy efficiency and resilience without diverting capital from core operations.

“We believe energy infrastructure should increasingly be consumed as a service—with investment, technology and performance responsibility sitting with specialist operators, while customers focus their capital on growth. This partnership with Energeia brings that model to scale,” Jain said.

According to the companies, the partnership is designed to convert energy savings into a bankable and repeatable revenue stream, potentially positioning energy efficiency as an investable infrastructure asset class.

Removing upfront capital requirements could also enable customers to evaluate energy-efficient equipment based on lifecycle energy performance and total cost of ownership rather than purchase price alone.

August Energy and Energeia aim to aggregate distributed energy-efficiency projects into a scalable investment portfolio by combining capital, infrastructure ownership, project execution and ongoing energy management.
