Assam has kickstarted the implementation of projects exceeding INR 60,000 crore, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced at an MoU signing ceremony in Guwahati. The event saw the formalisation of 20 new projects worth INR 22,900 crore.

These projects are part of the investment proposals received during the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit held in February this year. The Chief Minister stated that the state is aiming for a total investment of INR 1.5 lakh crore within the summit’s first year.

“The summit had garnered proposals worth INR 5.18 lakh crore. We carefully screened out non-serious proposals to ensure a smaller gap between proposed and actual investments,” Sarma said.

He highlighted that key infrastructure initiatives announced during the summit the Guwahati Ring Road, Narengi-Kuruwa bridge over the Brahmaputra, and the Guwahati-Silchar Expressway, have already received approval and represent investments totalling INR 30,000 crore.

The newly signed MoUs span critical sectors including waste management, solar power, ethanol production, and the Tata Gateway initiative. A notable inclusion in the state’s industrial pipeline is a INR 10,000-crore brownfield fertiliser plant in Namrup, which significantly contributes to the total investment tally.

“We expect confirmed investments of INR 1.5 lakh crore in the first year post-summit,” Sarma reiterated, underlining the rapid progress in project execution.

He further informed that another round of MoU signings will take place in September or October, with more high-value deals in the pipeline. The Chief Minister also expressed optimism that some of the ongoing projects may be inaugurated before year-end.

Stressing the importance of employment-intensive sectors, Sarma said agriculture, horticulture, veterinary, dairy, and allied industries are pivotal for Assam’s inclusive development.
