In a major push toward sustainable community development in India’s Northeast, Mumbai-based firm, Apraava Energy has joined hands with SELCO Foundation to bring solar power to community, health, and education facilities across Assam and Nagaland.

The initiative aims to deliver reliable, clean energy to underserved regions, benefiting over 21,000 people and reducing around 57 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, equivalent to planting approximately 2,580 trees each year.

In Assam’s Chirang district, a 27.5 kW solar-powered community facility is driving multiple development programmes centered on healthcare, education, livelihoods, and youth engagement. The site supports a weaving unit for women artisans, mental health and physiotherapy clinics, and a legal aid centre assisting women facing domestic violence.

A youth centre conducts skill-building workshops and cultural programmes for over 800 young people, while farmers, women entrepreneurs, and local NGOs receive regular capacity-building support. Additionally, 17 forest-based learning centres, serving over 700 children, ow have access to clean drinking water and sanitation.

In Nagaland’s Kohima district, the villages of Jhakama and Zhadima have been equipped with 22.32 kW solar installations, powering schools, health centres, and community spaces. The systems have enhanced digital learning infrastructure across five rural schools, improved the education experience of 1,000 students, and boosted community safety with solar-powered street lighting.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Priyesh Modi, Head – CSR, Apraava Energy, said, “Building sustainable communities lies at the core of our CSR strategy. In the Northeast, we’ve deepened our engagement to address the immediate and long-term needs of communities. This initiative is a strong example of holistic development, uplifting every section of society, sustainably.”

Beyond these solar-powered projects, Apraava continues to expand its community investment programmes. Its Agri-SHE initiative in Assam is empowering over 3,000 women entrepreneurs in agriculture and livestock-based livelihoods. In partnership with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, the company operates a centralised mid-day meal kitchen in Jorhat, serving about 11,000 nutritious meals daily to school children. The company is also backing 15 grassroots women changemakers driving social upliftment across the state.

Apraava Energy operates key transmission assets in Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur, and has ventured into the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) space. Its smart meter project in Assam was notably the first in India to achieve ‘Go-Live’ status under the Government of India’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).

Apraava Energy is jointly owned by the CLP Group and La Caisse (CDPQ). With a diversified portfolio of ~3.4 GW, including wind, solar, and transmission assets across 13 states, the company continues to invest in low-carbon growth areas, aligned with its commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
