In a bid to achieve a five-year production capacity of 0.5 MTPA of green hydrogen and 2 MTPA of green ammonia, the Andhra Pradesh government recently launched green hydrogen and green ammonia policy 2023. The policy will be in effect for five years or till a new policy is issued.
The programme will promote green hydrogen and green ammonia-related equipment manufacturing plants in the state. Each MTPA of green hydrogen produced would create around 12,000 jobs in the state. The New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) will act as the policy’s nodal agency. Meanwhile, the current demand of green hydrogen in Andhra Pradesh is around 0.34 MTPA.
Andhra Pradesh aims to produce green hydrogen and green ammonia through open access from co-located/non-co-located renewable energy plants.
Almost 100 percent of the net State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) on the sales of green hydrogen and green ammonia will be reimbursed to the developers for the first five years after the project’s completion.
Renewable power used to generate green hydrogen/green ammonia would get exemption from electricity duty for five years, beginning with the project’s commercial operation date.
The state will reportedly reimburse cross-subsidy fee for power taken from renewable projects inside the state to generate green hydrogen and green ammonia for five years from the date of commissioning.
Reportedly, 25 percent intrastate transmission charges would be reimbursed for five years from the date of commissioning for power obtained from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind or hybrid projects located in Andhra Pradesh, up to a maximum of one million MW per year of installed electrolyser capacity.
