Andhra Pradesh has added 3,865.63 MW of renewable energy capacity in 2025-26, nearly four times the 1,085.15 MW added in 2024-25, according to data tabled by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy in the Lok Sabha.

The data, provided in response to an Unstarred Question raised by Dr. M.K. Vishnu Prasad, showed a sharp turnaround in the state's renewable energy sector. Capacity additions stood at 125.42 MW in 2021-22, 148.62 MW in 2022-23 and 59.15 MW in 2023-24, before rising above 1 GW in 2024-25 and accelerating to nearly 3.9 GW in 2025-26.

The increase has been attributed to faster project approvals, investor-friendly policies, improved implementation and increased investments in renewable energy infrastructure. The state has consequently emerged as a growing destination for clean energy projects and is contributing to India's broader energy transition.

The Union government also informed Parliament that India has achieved the milestone of sourcing 50 percent of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources, five years ahead of the 2030 target. The country is also working towards achieving 500 GW of installed non-fossil fuel-based electricity capacity by 2030.

Andhra Pradesh's renewable energy expansion is expected to support investments, employment generation and sustainable economic growth. In May 2026, the state government said it had accelerated implementation of its Integrated Clean Energy Policy, which aims to attract investments of INR 10 lakh crore by 2029 across renewable energy, energy storage, green hydrogen, transmission and manufacturing ecosystems.
