AMPIN Energy Transition has achieved financial close on a USD 195 million long term project finance facility for its 100 MW power purchase agreement (PPA) capacity hybrid renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh.
The project integrates solar, wind and battery energy storage systems (BESS) to provide reliable and dispatchable clean power during periods of peak demand.
The financing is structured as a green loan and is aligned with the Green Loan Principles. It has also been structured in accordance with the Equator Principles, reflecting environmental and social considerations in the financing and development of the renewable energy project.
The hybrid configuration is designed to combine generation from solar and wind resources with battery storage, helping address the intermittency associated with renewable power generation. The integration of BESS is expected to support more predictable power delivery while strengthening grid reliability as electricity demand patterns become increasingly time sensitive.
The transaction was arranged by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) and Rabobank, which acted as Mandated Lead Arrangers, Green Loan Coordinators and Joint Structuring Banks. HSF Kramer and JSA Advocates provided legal support, while Aurora Energy Research and Tractebel supported the transaction.
The financing comes amid increasing interest in hybrid renewable energy projects that combine multiple generation technologies with energy storage. Such projects are gaining importance as India expands renewable energy capacity and seeks solutions capable of delivering clean electricity more reliably across different demand periods.
According to AMPIN, the transaction also reflects the growing sophistication of India's renewable energy financing ecosystem, where structured financing, engineering capabilities and emerging technologies are converging to support large scale clean energy infrastructure.
Pinaki Bhattacharyya, Founder, Managing Director and CEO of AMPIN Energy Transition, said that the transaction marks an important milestone for the company and reflects collaboration among the project stakeholders. He added that the financing would support the deployment of innovative renewable energy infrastructure and contribute to India's clean energy ambitions.
Jeanne Soh, Managing Director and Head of Structured Finance Asia Pacific at SMBC, said that hybrid renewable energy projects with integrated battery storage would play an important role in improving grid reliability and delivering dispatchable clean power at scale. She said that the transaction demonstrates the evolution of sustainable infrastructure financing and SMBC's commitment to financing solutions supporting energy security, economic development and decarbonisation across the region.
Amardeep Parmar, Managing Director and Head of Project Finance Asia at Rabobank, said that the financing highlights the growing maturity of India's renewable energy sector and the increasing role of integrated solar, wind and battery storage projects in delivering reliable clean power. He added that Rabobank remains committed to supporting projects contributing to a more sustainable and resilient energy system.
AMPIN Energy Transition said that the project is part of the broader shift towards renewable energy solutions that combine generation and storage to improve the reliability of clean power. The company currently has a portfolio of more than 6 GWp of renewable energy capacity along with 5.5 GWh of energy storage across 23 states in India.
