Alpex Solar to Inaugurate 2.2 GW TOPCon Cell Plant in Uttar Pradesh

Alpex Solar is set to inaugurate its 2.2 GW G12R TOPCon solar cell manufacturing facility at Kosi Kotwan in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, marking a major step in the company’s expansion into domestic solar cell manufacturing.

The company informed the exchange that the facility’s inauguration is scheduled for September 16, 2026, according to its latest disclosure. The development follows a series of milestones for the facility over the past two months. In July, Alpex Solar applied to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy for inclusion of the 2.2 GW cell manufacturing facility in the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers List II, ahead of commercial production. The plant was built in about 15 months and uses G12R TOPCon technology.

The company had initially expected commercial production to begin in August. However, during its August earnings call, management revised the timeline to around September 15, with the first invoice expected around September 19 or 20. The delay followed a fire incident at the facility in July along with supply chain and logistics disruptions.

Alpex Solar reported consolidated operating revenue of INR 503.42 crore for the first quarter of FY27, while EBITDA stood at INR 78.43 crore. The company said the quarter was supported by higher demand and market expansion.

The new cell facility is expected to strengthen the company’s backward integration, with most of the cell output planned for use in its module manufacturing operations. Alpex currently has 2.4 GW of module manufacturing capacity and is targeting expansion to 3.6 GW. The company has also outlined plans for further vertical integration into ingot, wafer and solar glass manufacturing.

In its August investor discussions, Alpex Solar indicated that the cell facility could produce around 1 GW during the remaining period of FY27, subject to the ramp up. The company has also set a longer term target of around INR 4,000 crore in revenue for FY28 when the cell capacity is fully operational.

The commissioning of the Kosi Kotwan facility will expand Alpex Solar’s solar cell manufacturing capabilities and strengthen its domestic solar manufacturing presence.”
