Albania has secured funding for a major solar park in Belsh, set to supply clean electricity to over 16,100 households, Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Belinda Balluku announced recently.
The project will be supported by a EUR 9.58 million grant from the European Union and a EUR 30 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Once operational, the photovoltaic facility is expected to reduce annual carbon emissions by around 15,000 tonnes.
“This project is a key step in strengthening renewable energy and sustainability in Albania,” Balluku said. She also highlighted broader regional ambitions, including increased energy cooperation with the United Arab Emirates, plans to triple transmission capacity with North Macedonia and Greece, and ongoing negotiations with Italy for a submarine power line.
The construction tender is set to launch soon, with the project expected to be completed within 12 months of contract award.
