The Akshaya Patra Foundation, in partnership with HSBC Global Service Centres, India, has launched sustainability projects at its kitchens in Kandi, Narsingi, and Warangal.
The Akshaya Patra Foundation, in collaboration with HSBC Global Service Centres, India, has launched three sustainability projects at its kitchens in Kandi (Sangareddy), Narsingi (Rangareddy), and Warangal. These projects include a 165 kw solar plant and a 2,000 kg capacity biogas plant, which will generate clean, renewable energy and significantly reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 152 tonnes annually.
These kitchens, which supply nutritious mid-day meals to 18,803 beneficiaries, will see cost savings over 20 years due to the solar plant. The biogas systems will replace conventional LPG for cooking, using organic waste from the kitchens. This waste-to-resource conversion not only improves waste management but also produces organic slurry fertilizer, benefiting around 27,500 beneficiaries over 15 years.
It should be noted that these sustainable measures have enabled HSBC and the Akshaya Patra Foundation to provide over 1.25 million nutritious mid-day meals to children in Telangana and Karnataka in the fiscal year 2023-24.
Mamatha Madireddy, Managing Director and Head of HSBC India Global Service Centres, stressed upon the dual benefits of energy efficiency and ensuring wholesome meals for children.
Satya Gaura Chandra Dasa, Trustee and Regional President of Akshaya Patra Foundation Hyderabad, thanked HSBC for their generous support. He hoped that this partnership significantly boosts the foundation's ability to provide for underprivileged children while fostering environmental sustainability.
