In a remarkable initiative to improve intra-campus transportation and reduce the carbon footprint, some faculty and staff members at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi have generously offered the services of their personal drivers to operate electric vehicles (EVs) during working hours.

AIIMS, in line with its commitment to promoting sustainability, has approved this endeavor, allowing personal drivers to voluntarily contribute to the operation of e-shuttles within the campus.

The office memorandum issued by AIIMS stated that several faculty and staff members had approached the institute with offers to provide the services of their personal drivers during working hours, as these drivers are typically free during that time. In response to these requests, AIIMS has given permission for all faculty and staff to engage their personal drivers in driving electric vehicles within the AIIMS-Delhi campus based on their availability.

To facilitate this initiative, willing drivers offering voluntary service are required to contact the PIC (Intramural Transport Services) with an undertaking from the respective faculty members or staffers. This collaborative effort aims to enhance the eco-friendly transportation experience for patients, staff, and visitors within the AIIMS campus.

AIIMS-Delhi's Director, Dr. M. Srinivas, expressed his support for the initiative, stating, "AIIMS-New Delhi continues to be a pioneer in innovative healthcare and sustainability efforts. The decision to engage personal drivers in this endeavor is a testament to our dedication to environmental responsibility and fostering a spirit of collaboration within the AIIMS community."

Importantly, AIIMS will not incur any financial obligations, and the institution will not issue experience certificates or extend benefits associated with regular or outsourced staff positions to these voluntary drivers, as clarified by Dr. Rima Dada, Professor in-charge of the Media Cell.

This initiative showcases the dedication of AIIMS team members to contribute to sustainability efforts and reinforces AIIMS's commitment to responsible and eco-friendly practices.
