The All India Discoms Association (AIDA) has announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) to collaborate under the India Grids of the Future Accelerator (IGFA) initiative, aimed at modernising and strengthening India’s power distribution networks.
The agreement was signed by Lokesh Chandra, President of AIDA, during Mumbai Climate Week.
Founded by the Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation and the Bezos Earth Fund, GEAPP is a global alliance working to accelerate equitable and rapid transitions to green energy in developing countries. Through its “Grids of the Future” initiative, the alliance focuses on building intelligent, flexible and renewable-ready electricity networks.
Under the partnership, AIDA will collaborate with GEAPP to develop modernisation roadmaps for up to 15 member utilities. The initiative will support grid digitalisation, integration of distributed energy resources (DERs), and the broader democratisation of energy production and consumption.
The collaboration will also focus on capacity building and change management within utilities, identifying priority investment-ready project pipelines, engaging funding partners, and facilitating knowledge exchange among member utilities.
“This strategic engagement will support utilities in building intelligent, flexible, and renewables-ready grids – critical for achieving India’s clean energy ambitions. We look forward to working closely with GEAPP and our member utilities to drive meaningful transformation across the sector,” stated AIDA.
