Ahmedabad based Tech Startup Soon to Launch E-Motorcycles, Energy Solutions for Indian Market

Mohal Lalbhai-led technology start-up Matter is planning to launch electric motorcycles along with a range of energy solutions in the country, starting this year.

Mohal Lalbhai-led technology start-up Matter is planning to launch electric motorcycles along with a range of energy solutions in the country, starting this year.

In the beginning, the Ahmedabad-based company would start operations in stages with key Indian cities including New Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, Lucknow and Chandigarh.

Commenting on the announcement, Matter, Founder and CEO, Mohal Lalbhai, belongs to Lalbhai family in Gujarat, said that, “the focus of Matter through design & engineering will be to create products and services well suited for the Indian user. We have set a target of USD 1 billion top line by 2025. Our vehicles are well aligned with India’s strong demand for clean mobility and Matter will be manufacturing these motorcycles at its local plant in Ahmedabad prior to mass distribution across the country.”

Matter is led by CEO, Mohal Lalbhai and COO, Arun Pratap Singh, an IIT-K and IIM-A alumnus and former head of YObykes.

The company, founded in January 2019, had been extensively invested in research & development (R&D) for developing platforms for EVs and storage solutions technology in stealth mode.

The startup company cleared that all the powertrain components required for it’s products have been designed by its team and sourced locally.

Also, it’s range of motorcycles would be in mass-premium category with unique user experience wrt to performance, safety, and production standards. Initially, the company

Matter would be manufacturing its electric motorcycles with an initial yearly production capacity of 60,000 units that will subsequently be scaled up.

Furthermore, these e-motorcycles is expected to be launched in Q4 2021 and would be applicable for FAME II subsidies.

Besides, the company is also producing its battery packs for inhouse consumption and would also supply these to customers in non-compete EV segments and storage applications.

In energy solutions range, the company will likely to offer various solutions including - large scale energy storage applications such as solar home lighting systems, home inverters, UPS systems as well as non-compete EV products such as battery packs. 

Moreover, these products have also been designed and manufactured by Matter’s in-house team of researchers and engineers.

Meanwhile, the company is expected to begin its retail operations from April 2021, through two distribution channels i.e. B2B and B2C. Initially this will be for its energy solutions called MatterEnergy, and subsequently for its range of EVs i.e. MatterMobility in Q4 2021. In terms of distribution, the company has strategy to enter key Indian markets starting with west, followed by north, south and east through its centres and later through dealerships.
