AdventHealth is taking another step toward reducing its carbon emissions and achieving its environmental sustainability goals with an on-site solar energy installation at its corporate headquarters in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

The corporate headquarters, housing nearly 5,000 team members supporting operations and care delivery across the nation, will see the installation of over 7,500 solar panels atop four buildings and two garages on the campus. Additionally, solar canopies will be erected across the parking lot surface, accompanied by electric vehicle charging stations capable of supporting 62 electric vehicles.

Christine Stewart, AdventHealth's Vice President of organizational integration and campus administration, emphasized the importance of these sustainability initiatives, stating, "AdventHealth is pursuing sustainability initiatives that help ensure the long-term well-being of our team members, patients, communities, business, and environment."

The 3 MW solar system is projected to generate 4,200 MWh of electricity annually, reducing the campus's reliance on utility-provided electricity by approximately a third and yielding an estimated USD 20 million in savings over 20 years. Scheduled for completion by the end of 2024, this installation will mark one of the largest privately owned corporate solar projects in Florida.

Morgan Brawner, Chief Revenue Officer at ESA, the national solar developer spearheading the project, highlighted the collaboration's significance, stating, "This collaboration represents the first step in a larger strategy to help AdventHealth meet their environmental goals with on-site clean energy."

AdventHealth's commitment to sustainability aligns with its pledge as a signatory of the US Health and Human Services Health Sector Climate Pledge, aiming for a 50 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from electricity by 2030. Beyond on-site solar installations, the health system is engaging in long-term virtual power purchase agreements and is participating in community energy projects.
