Thermal power producer Adani Power Ltd. (APL) has completed the acquisition and resolution plan implementation of Vidarbha Industries Power Ltd. (VIPL) for a total consideration of INR 4,000 crore.
The acquisition, approved by the Mumbai Bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) on June 18, 2025, was fully implemented on July 7, 2025.
VIPL, a 2×300 MW domestic coal-fired power plant based in Butibori, Nagpur (Maharashtra), was undergoing Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).
With this addition, Adani Power’s total operational capacity has risen to 18,150 MW.
Commenting on the development, SB Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power, said, “The acquisition of VIPL is a key milestone in Adani Power’s strategy to unlock value through the turnaround of stressed assets. As we continue expanding our portfolio, we remain committed to supporting India’s vision of ‘Electricity for All’ by delivering reliable, affordable base-load power that fuels the country’s sustainable growth.”
Adani Power is now advancing toward a targeted total capacity of 30,670 MW by 2030 through a combination of brownfield and greenfield projects.
This includes the construction of six 1,600 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plants (USCTPP) at its existing locations in Singrauli-Mahan (Madhya Pradesh), Raipur, Raigarh, Korba (Chhattisgarh), and Kawai (Rajasthan), as well as a 1,600 MW greenfield USCTPP in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, it is reviving the construction of a 1,320 MW supercritical power plant at Korba that it has acquired previously.
Meanwhile, Adani Green Energy Ltd. (AGEL), another Adani Group company, has crossed a major milestone by reaching an installed renewable energy capacity of 15,539.9 MW — becoming India’s first and only renewable energy firm to attain this landmark achievement, primarily through greenfield projects.
AGEL’s operational portfolio includes 11,005.5 MW of solar, 1,977.8 MW of wind, and 2,556.6 MW of wind-solar hybrid capacity.
Ashish Khanna, CEO, AGEL, described this achievement as “a testament to our team's relentless focus and dedication.”
“We aim to accelerate even faster from 15,000 MW to 50,000 MW by 2030, remaining steadfast in our mission to power India and the world with sustainable energy solutions,” he said.
AGEL is also building the world’s largest renewable energy project at Khavda in Kutch, Gujarat, spanning 538 sq km—five times the size of Paris. As of now, 5,355.9 MW of renewable energy capacity has already been commissioned at the site.
