The Adani Group has announced its entry into India's nuclear power sector, unveiling plans to develop 10 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2035 as part of its long-term strategy to build an integrated and diversified energy platform. The announcement was made by Chairman Gautam Adani during the group's Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Adani said that the company's nuclear ambitions will be pursued through a new venture, Adani Atomic Energy, with land already identified for future projects. The move represents a significant expansion of the conglomerate's presence in India's power sector, which already spans thermal, renewable, hydroelectric, gas-based generation and transmission businesses.
The planned 10 GW capacity would position the Adani Group among India's largest nuclear power operators and aligns with the country's broader objective of expanding nuclear generation as a reliable low-carbon energy source. India currently has about 8 GW of installed nuclear capacity and aims to scale this to 100 GW by 2047 under its long-term energy transition strategy.
Highlighting the group's broader energy roadmap, Adani also announced accelerated investments across the energy value chain. The conglomerate plans to increase its total power generation capacity to 45 GW by FY32, while its data centre business is targeting 3 GW of capacity by 2030. The group is also expanding natural gas distribution and hydropower investments to support India's growing energy demand.
According to Adani, the nuclear initiative is intended to strengthen India's long-term energy security by providing reliable, round-the-clock clean power alongside renewable energy sources. The company has not yet disclosed project locations, technology partners, or investment details for the proposed nuclear facilities.
The announcement comes as India opens greater opportunities for private-sector participation in nuclear energy, creating a new avenue for large infrastructure companies to invest in the country's clean energy future.
