ABB’s ‘Ability™ Tekomar XPERT’ software for power plant has made a market debut after EDF PEI, French energy company EDF subsidiary, has trialed it for over a year.

It helps operators to maximize engine uptime and identify potential engine issues at their sites at an early stage. It provides transparency via structured reporting on engine status and performance as well as advanced diagnostics and optimization advisory.

EDF PEI uses the software to improve reliability, efficiency and sustainability at locations in Guadeloupe, Martinique, La Reunion and Corsica. The software covers a total of 43 engines with a combined output of 750 MW.

“Reliable engine operations are particularly important at island power generation sites,” said Nicolas Grimaud, Technical Director at EDF PEI. “ABB Ability™ Tekomar XPERT for power plant will allow both local and central management teams to keep an eye on engine performance and quickly identify potential for optimization.”

The company said that, ABB Ability™ Tekomar XPERT has a proven track record on over 8,000 ship engines. The new power plant software builds on that experience and comprises two separate applications i.e. a desktop app that allows local management to monitor and optimize engines; and a web app that can be used by central teams to standardize power plant status reporting across one or several groups.

Further, key engine indicators are presented in intuitive dashboards, allowing operators to monitor, optimize and benchmark engine performance while giving early warning of potential engine problems.

“We are delighted that EDF PEI has chosen to put its trust in Tekomar XPERT to deliver engine insights at these four plants,” said Cristian Corotto, Global head of Digital Customer solutions, ABB Turbocharging. “Power generation is an exciting new market for our engine performance optimization software and a natural extension after proving its capability in the demanding maritime sector. EDF PEI is at the forefront of efficient, sustainable power generation and we are pleased to be entering the market with one of the world’s most dynamic energy companies.”
