ABB has dispatched its first wind power converter manufactured in India, following its December 2025 acquisition of Gamesa Electric’s power electronics business. The unit, shipped from ABB’s advanced Nelamangala facility, was delivered to a wind turbine OEM, marking a key milestone in ABB’s renewable energy expansion in India and globally.
The delivery integrates Gamesa Electric’s proven wind energy conversion technologies into ABB’s portfolio, supporting the company’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. ABB’s expanded renewable portfolio now includes locally manufactured wind converters, utility-scale solar inverters, and power conversion systems (PCS) for battery energy storage systems (BESS).
“Wind energy is central to the global energy transition. By delivering advanced, locally manufactured power conversion technologies engineered for smooth grid integration, we are strengthening wind power deployment in India and worldwide,” said Anoop Anand, President – Motion High Power Division, ABB India Ltd. “This milestone also reinforces India’s position as a global hub for renewable energy manufacturing and deployment." said Anand.
India, the world’s third-largest wind manufacturing hub, is expected to meet approximately 10 percent of global wind demand and scale installed wind capacity to 107 GW by 2030. ABB’s acquisition further strengthens its renewable power conversion capabilities, expanding its serviceable installed base of wind converters by roughly 46 GW globally, nearly one-fifth of India’s current renewable energy capacity.
As per the firm, ABB has delivered over 60,000 wind converters and generators worldwide over the past 15 years and continues to offer comprehensive utility-scale solutions across wind, solar, and BESS.
