More than 500 renewable energy professionals, policymakers and industry stakeholders gathered in Guwahati on Thursday for the inaugural North-East edition of the REconnect Summit, a single-day conference, underscoring growing investor and industry interest in the region as Assam accelerates its clean energy ambitions.
The summit, organised by Energetica India at Vivanta by Taj, attracted over 500 attendees, featured 20+ speakers, and brought together more than 150 delegates representing government agencies, utilities, developers, EPC companies, manufacturers, technology providers and financial institutions.
The strong industry response comes as Assam positions itself as a renewable energy investment destination through the Assam Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2025, which targets 11,700 MW of renewable energy capacity by FY2030, and the Assam Solar Power Promotion Policy 2025, aimed at installing 3,500 MW of solar capacity by March 2030.
Industry participants said the policy framework, combined with financial incentives for renewable energy manufacturers, single-window project clearances and planned investments in advanced manufacturing, is creating favourable conditions for clean energy deployment across North-East India.
Opening the summit, Hemant Arora, Director of Energetica India, said the North-East is increasingly becoming an important growth market for renewable energy due to its natural resource potential, rising electricity demand and supportive policy environment.
Special Guest Dr. Arup Kumar Misra, Chairman of the Assam Pollution Control Board, highlighted the state's early efforts in rooftop solar deployment, recalling that during his tenure at the Assam Energy Development Agency (AEDA), rooftop systems were installed across 294 households as well as educational and healthcare institutions within the first year of implementation despite limited resources.
Guest of Honour Dr. Jaideep Baruah, Director of the Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC) and Director of AEDA, said regulatory clarity and policy certainty are critical for attracting investment and accelerating renewable energy and battery energy storage system (BESS) deployment across the state.
The summit featured three panel discussions focusing on rooftop solar adoption, domestic solar manufacturing and battery energy storage.
During the rooftop solar session, industry experts said Assam has installed approximately 644 MW of renewable energy capacity, including around 415 MW from rooftop solar. Panellists said future growth would depend on expanding installations beyond urban centres by increasing participation from local bodies, self-help groups and community institutions while improving consumer awareness and financing access under the PM Surya Ghar programme.
The manufacturing session highlighted India's rapidly expanding domestic solar industry, with panellists noting that the country has developed around 240 GW of solar manufacturing capacity. They said policy measures such as the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) framework and Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) mandate are strengthening domestic cell and module production while encouraging higher manufacturing standards.
Speakers also highlighted incentives available under Assam's Integrated Clean Energy Policy, including support for manufacturers of solar modules, batteries, wind equipment and electrolysers, along with 100 percent SGST reimbursement and capital subsidies for eligible green hydrogen projects. They said APDCL's single-window clearance mechanism is expected to improve project execution timelines.
The final discussion focused on battery energy storage systems, with experts emphasising that alongside technology deployment, North-East India will require greater investment in skills development, research collaboration and innovation to support reliable renewable power integration. Panellists said emerging storage technologies and region-specific solutions will play an increasingly important role as renewable energy capacity expands across the region.
The successful hosting of the REconnect Summit North-East Edition 2026 was made possible through the valuable support of its sponsors and industry partners. The summit was supported by Adani Solar as the Gold Partner, Solis as the Inverter Partner, Feston as the Silver Partner, Joint Solar as the Badge Partner, Zuvay as the Turnkey Silicon, Wafer, Cell and Module Technology Partner, Gautam Solar as the Chair Branding Partner, Pom Power as the Energy Storage Partner, and Oswal Solar as the Solar Module Partner. The event also received strong backing from Onsite Branding Partners Pahal Solar, Cosmic, Anand Ebeam Cables, ADM Solar, I-Torrent, True Power, and Aimbeez Energia. Industry support was further strengthened by the participation of the Pan India Solar Sector Association (PISSA) and the North East Region Renewable Energy Developers Association (NERREDA) as Industry Association Partners.
The record participation at REconnect North-East Edition 2026 reflects growing confidence in the North-East's renewable energy market as governments and industry work to accelerate clean energy deployment, strengthen domestic manufacturing and build a more resilient power system.
