20 GW of Wind Power installed in India

Planning Commission recommendes establishment of a National Wind Energy Mission

A total capacity of over 20 GW has so far been installed in the country. This has been possible due to the concerted efforts of the Central Government and State Governments to provide a conducive environment for growth of industries as well as for private sector investment. Recognizing the importance of wind power to renewable energy development in India, the Planning Commission has recommended establishment of a National Wind Energy Mission. 

This mission will help focus on the relevant issues and try to resolve them through active cooperation of related ministries and will also help focus on achieving targets in a given time frame.In order to deliberate on the issues and getting feedback from all the stakeholders, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is organizing a "National Consultation on Wind Energy Mission", on 9th January, 2014.
