Federal Express Corporation (FedEx), the express transportation company, has introduced 14 fully electric Mercedes-Benz eSprinter vans into its pickup and delivery fleet in the UAE. This marks the first time the eSprinter model has been deployed by FedEx in the Middle East, making the UAE the company’s first regional market to adopt the electric van.

The newly added electric vehicles will operate on daily delivery routes across the Emirates. Each van offers a payload capacity of up to three tons and an estimated driving range of up to 380 kilometers on a full charge. Together, the fleet is expected to help reduce approximately 148 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, supporting efforts to lower last-mile delivery emissions.

The deployment forms part of FedEx’s broader sustainability strategy, which includes a phased transition toward a fully electric global pickup and delivery fleet by 2040. Company officials stated that the move aligns with the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative and reflects the country’s growing role as an early adopter of sustainable logistics solutions in the region. FedEx emphasised that the expansion will allow the company to maintain reliable delivery performance while addressing the continued growth of e-commerce.

The initiative was carried out in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, whose eSprinter model was engineered for demanding commercial operations. The company noted that the vehicle combines strong payload capability, dependable range, and advanced safety features, enabling seamless integration into high-intensity delivery networks.

In addition to fleet electrification, FedEx continues to enhance sustainability across its facilities. The company’s hub at Dubai World Central (DWC) Airport was constructed in accordance with Dubai Municipality Green Standards, which aim to improve building efficiency by reducing energy, water, and material consumption. The facility includes a building management system to optimize energy use, electric vehicle charging stations for fleet and employee vehicles, and plans for future solar panel installations.

FedEx has also introduced a cloud-based carbon emissions reporting tool, FedEx® Sustainability Insights, which provides customers with access to historical emissions data for eligible shipments within the FedEx network. The tool is designed to help customers make informed shipping decisions and reduce their environmental impact.
