EESL Ropes in Sterlite Power’s Rajat Sud as New Managing Director NTPC Invites EoI to Setup Energy Intensive Manufacturing Plants within Premises State-owned Energy Efficiency Ser - vices Limited (EESL) has appointed Rajat Sud, Executive VP of Sterlite Pow- er Transmission Ltd (SPTL), as its new Managing Director, with immediate ef- fect. He took over from S. Gopal Director (Commercial), who had taken on the ad- ditional charge of interim MD of EESL. Sud is an energy sector veteran with 29 years of industry experience. His repertoire encompasses energy sector restructuring, business strategy, perfor- mance improvement and acquisitions. He also has several notable accom- plishments, in securing internation- al consulting engagements, building teams and businesses, driving innova- tive solutions growth, policy formulation and reforms in the Indian power sector, where he played a lead role in unbun- dling of the state-owned utilities. The company said that, his experience in the sector will be indispensable in helping EESL achieve its ambitious goals and create a new energy para- digm in the country. During his tenure with STPL, he was re- sponsible for the growth of the services business, with a focus on providing solutions for enhancing power delivery through congested transmission lines and corridors. He has also served in leadership positions at Siemens IT Solu- tions (SISL) and PwC. Commenting about his appointment, Rajat Sud, MD, EESL said, “I have ad- mired EESL, a young and vibrant orga- nization, and its pioneering role in ener- gy efficiency in India. EESL’s impactful initiatives in buildings, transportation, lighting and energy generation have created unprecedented milestones. I look forward to working closely with him to drive transformative energy efficien - cy programmes,” said Saurabh Kumar, EVC, EESL. 13 energetica INDIA- September_2020 NEWS NATIONAL In a key initiative to promote Make in In- dia and give boost to the Government’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, NTPC Ltd has invited expression of Interest (EoI) from energy intensive industries for set- ting up manufacturing units within its plant premises. According to a statement issued by NTPC Ltd, country’s largest power gen- eration company and a PSU under the Ministry of Power, it has invited the EOI from MSMEs and Indian companies for setting up energy intensive manufactur- ing plants such as Bulk Chemicals - Am- monia, Urea, ChlorAlkali, Gypsum and Gypsum products, Geopolymer, Cooling & Heating Solutions, Aluminium, miner- al processing (ceramics, tiles, pottery, brick, glass etc.), metallurgical and met- al industries (foundries, forging, alloys, heat treatment, steel rerolling, etc.) in the Industrial parks to be developed on a pi- lot basis. Further these facilities will be set up in the NTPC Thermal Power plants at So- lapur (Maharashtra), Kudgi (Karnataka) and Gadarwara (Madhya Pradesh). The last date for submitting EoI from eli- gible bidders is October 21, 2020. However, these industrial parks will be subjected to requisite approvals from re- spective State and Central Government and NTPC will process these approvals based on responses received in the EOI. Besides, government has also an- nounced slew of economic packages aimed to build self-reliant India by cre- ating conducive investment environment and developing manufacturing hubs. The company’s power plants across the country have evolved into economic centres with robust infrastructure system in place. Capitalising on the economic ecosystem developed over period of time, it is exploring ideas to improve utili- sation of land within its plant locations for enhancing economic activity and further contributing to economic growth of the country. Moreover, this initiative will create indus- trial parks within the power plants which, besides offering unique advantage of reliable electricity supply at competitive prices, will provide slew of other bene- fits of readily available infrastructural services like adequate water supply, ac- cessibility through road and rail network, robust connectivity with internet lease lines, accessibility to township, medical facilities and local market along with various testing facilities which will be co-opted on need basis. Meanwhile, as part of the plan, the com- pany will also enter into separate agree- ment with prospective entities for allot- ment of spaces.
