E nergetica I ndia : How would you de- scribe EESL’s decade long journey to unlock the true potential of energy efficiency in India? V enkatesh D wivedi : EESL was established with the vision of achieving universal access for sustainable energy solutions that can enable a low carbon future and deliver social and economic impact. The early success with our domestic street lighting programme deepened our com- mitment and accelerated our mission for driving widespread energy efficiency adoption. Sincethen we have diversified into more energy efficient and clean en - ergy technologies. On our agenda in the near and medi- um term are buildings energy efficiency programme, Agriculture Demand Side Management, smart meters, trigener- ation, electric vehicle infrastructure, decentralized solar power plants and gram panchayat LED street lighting pro- grammes. Our Buildings Energy Efficiency Pro - gramme offers a uniquely designed solution for buildings of the government, industry, and institutions to implement and retrofit energy efficient appliances and systems at affordable prices. As on date, we have completed building energy efficiency projects in 10,344 buildings including railway stations and airports. The energy audits show energy saving potential to the tune of up to 30- 50% in these buildings. The major inter - ventions in these buildings are in area of lighting and air-conditioning systems. We are implementing Agriculture De- mand Side Management (AgDSM) for the replacement of old pumps with BEE 5 Star rated pumps. As on date, we have installed over 73,900 no. of pumps in the state of Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. We are also focused on a technolo- gy called trigeneration where heating, cooling, and power are generated si- multaneously. EESL offers an integrated turnkey solution, providing end-to-end service and maintenance. Our acqui- sition of Edina, UK’s leading supplier, installer and maintenance provider for combined heat and power (CHP), gas, and diesel power generation solutions enables us to capture the international market potential for trigeneration. The market for trigeneration technology has been estimated at 20,000 MW in India, with the bulk of the demand expected to be driven primarily by commercial real estate, airports, industries and service establishments. EESL aims to harness these capabilities and introduce a com- pelling turnkey solution and servicing model to India, the past absence of which has restrained the wider adoption of trigeneration technology in India. We are also working towards providing reliable solar power supply to agricul- tural pump sets by setting up solar mini grids. These PV pump sets will be used to irrigate the farms during the daytime, thereby reducing dependence on die- sel. EESL will finance, design, install, 22 energetica INDIA- March-April_2020 INTERVIEW Energetica India EESL successfully completes a decade of helping India become Energy Efficient Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of PSUs under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has completed 10 years of scaling up energy efficiency pro - grammes in India and globally. Established in 2009 to unlock the potential of energy efficiency, initiatives implemented by EESL have cumulatively led to energy savings of over 58 billion kWh and a reduction of over 46 million tonnes of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the globe. In its 10 years, EESL has had an exponential growth, with of - fices spread across India, UK, Middle East, South Asia and South-East Asia. EESL’s revenue has grown at a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 114.96 per cent from INR 26 crore in FY 2013-14 to INR 2565 crore in FY 2018-19. With its rapid growth, EESL now aims to become INR 10,000-crore company in the next three years. Energetica India speaks Venkatesh Dwivedi, Director (Projects), Energy Efficiency Services Limited to gather insights into its decade long journey and the learning.
