Solar (162.15 GW) and Wind (57.44 GW) contribute 219.59 GW – approximately 76 percent of the total installed RE capacity. Integrating such a large share of variable energy necessitated rapid deployment of energy stor- age systems. To support this, as of H1 2026, 8.7 GWh of battery ener- gy storage systems (BESS) have been installed, of which 7.1 GWh of capacity have been added in H1 itself, according to a report by India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA).
