Navitas Solar to Invest INR 1,500 Crore in Gujarat for 3.6 GW Solar Cell Plant and Pilot Wafer-Ingot Manufacturing Line Navitas Solar has announced its plans to invest about INR 1,500 crore in an integrated manufacturing expansion in Gujarat, including a 3.6 GW solar cell facility and a pilot wafer and ingot production line. The project is aimed at increasing domestic value addition, re- ducing reliance on imported solar com- ponents and strengthening India’s solar manufacturing supply chain, the com- pany said. The expansion will be developed in phases, with the first phase targeted for commissioning in 2027, while sub- sequent capacity additions will depend on market conditions and project read- iness. Civil construction covering more than 1 million square feet is already underway, Navitas Solar said, adding that it has se- cured technology partnerships and ap- pointed senior leadership to oversee the new manufacturing vertical. The pro- posed solar cell facility is being designed as a highly automated production plat- form capable of supporting future tech- nology upgrades and next-generation cell architectures. The company also plans to establish a pilot wafer and ingot manufacturing line in 2027 as part of its strategy to deepen backward integration across the solar value chain. Navitas Solar said that its planned 3.6 GW cell manufac- turing facility aligns with the govern- ment’s efforts to boost local manufac- turing, reduce import dependence and improve supply-chain security. The project is expected to create nearly 1,000 direct jobs across manufacturing, engineering, operations, project exe- cution, quality assurance and research functions, while generating additional indirect employment through logistics and ancillary industries. Navitas Solar currently operates 3 GW of annual solar module manufacturing capacity and produces Mono PERC and TOPCon modules ranging from 40 watts to 720 watts. Through its subsidiary, Navitas Alpha Renewables Pvt. Ltd., the company also manufactures solar encapsulants used in photovoltaic mod- ule production. Further, CEO Chirag Patel said that these principles will continue to guide Solaryaan’s growth strategy and or- ganisational culture as it enters its next phase of expansion.
