Energetica India Magazine May-June 2021
EDITORIAL Dear Energetica India Readers, We welcome you to May-June 2021 edition of Energetica India. With India being rated among the ten high- est performers for climate action in Climate Change Performance Index 2020, the Pow- er and New and Renewable Energy Minister RK Singh said that India is going to over- achieve its Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) targets committed as part of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. We hope India will achieve its tar- gets as it is the ultimate goal behind all the policy formations and efforts being taken by the government and renewable energy in- dustry stakeholders. Meanwhile, for the current edition, Energet- ica India has met up with the following in- dustry leaders to get more insights into the industry trends: 1. Mr. Jamal Wadi, President – Alfanar Con- struction and CEO – Alfanar Global Devel- opment 2. Mr. Stefan Louis, Chief Executive Officer, Nexcharge 3. Mr. SP Garnaik, Executive Director and Business Unit Head (Lighting), EESL 4. Mr. Javier Reclusa, Chief Executive Offi - cer, STI Norland India Start-up Story : The start-up section showcases interesting ventures in the field of renewable energy, battery storage tech- nologies, energy efficiency & conservation, EVs and sustainability technologies. In this edition, we cover Flo Mobility - a manufac- turer of electric two-wheelers. Its vision is to build a smart, sustainable, and most impor- tantly, safer transport solution for everyone. Influential Women in the Renewable En - ergy : In the women-influencers section, which was started by Energetica India to showcase the contribution and achieve- ments of women in the renewable industry, we spoke to Ms. Deepali Khanna, Managing Director, Asia Regional Office, The Rocke - feller Foundation. She is a strong believer that the greater participation of women in the energy value chain can help in more ef- fective access to energy. Some interesting and informative articles in this edition include: 1. Alternative to ICE Powertrain: Battery Electric Vehicle versus Fuel Cells by Dr. Parveen Kumar, Senior Manager, World Re- sources Institute India In the search for an alternative source of fuel, governments are recognising hydro- gen’s ability to decarbonize sectors that are difficult to abate – personal or collective transportation, freight logistics, etc. Hydro- gen is also gaining traction in industries like automotive, chemical, oil and gas, and heating, where it is being viewed as a viable alternative for achieving long-term sustain- ability. 2. EV Charging is More about Custom - er Centricity than Hardware by Sandeep Bangia, Head – EV & Home Automation, Tata Power Setting up an EV infrastructure is not just about running a project to install chargers on the ground as one may be tempted to believe. It’s mainly about managing the cus- tomer experience and that’s where smaller myopic operators who may have joined the ‘proverbial’ gold rush, tend to falter. We hope you enjoy reading our work. Please feel free to write to us at manu@en- ergetica-india.net with your feedback. We are always open to speak to our read- ers and learn how we can support them in their business growth. 4 energetica INDIA- May-June_2021
