Another year is coming to an end and with this, the renewable energy sector is positioned at an exciting juncture. With the burning of fossil fuels being one of the primary causes of climate change, the renewable energy sector emerges as a beacon of hope, offering viable solutions.
The renewable energy sector showcased a plethora of opportunities this year, led by technological advancements and growing investments in the solar market. India has undeniably made significant strides and stands fourth globally in renewable energy installed capacity. From 76.37 GW in March 2014 to 178.98 GW in October 2023, the installed renewable energy capacity has increased substantially with an increase of around 25.54 times in the solar power installed capacity.
The industrial landscape is undergoing significant transformation, driven by the progression of technology. Several key areas, from advancements in solar modules to government initiatives, are set to shape the solar sector in different ways throughout 2024.
In view of this, Energetica India interviewed key industry players on what kept up the momentum in 2023 and how 2024 will set the tone to fast-track India’s ambitious renewable energy capacity addition target of 500 GW by 2030.

Our capacity addition plans for the coming year are focused on several extents. We aim to expand our production capacity to meet the growing demand for solar products.

We have major plans, in terms of capacity expansion in 2024. We are already hard at work on our annual module manufacturing capacity expansion to 2 GW, which we aim to complete by the end of 2024. These include expansions at our present 4 factories in Haridwar, Uttarakhand and a new factory being set up in Haryana.

Our major focus is on building assets across the energy spectrum ranging from solar IPP, ethanol production, CBG production from food waste/ agro-waste, etc. We are also exploring to set-up data centers starting with the first such center in Delhi NCR.

Rayzon aims to introduce new TOPCon models, reaching up to 635 Wp in Monofacial and Bifacial designs featuring transparent back sheets and glass to glass technology. These advancements are projected to secure 3x IEC certification for 585 Wp models by March 2024.

2024 promises to bring a host of opportunities for the renewable energy industry, including ToD tariffs for C&I players, which are expected to further incentivise investment in RE as well as storage systems. In the upcoming year, our plan is to start production of Navitas N-type TOPCon modules and we would like to onboard big clients with this new technological shift in the industry. We will be able to manufacture modules up to 20 bus bars which can generate up to 720 watts per panel.

Our group has a target to achieve COD of 4 GW RE capacity each year till 2025 and 6 GW RE capacity each year. Hence, India would be among the key countries for the group, among other key countries, given that the scale India can offer, while still providing an opportunity to be selective in the auctions.
