According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), India has recorded one of the world's fastest increases in power demand over the last five years, with solar attracting more than half of all non-fossil power investments.

While cost savings remain important, today's energy landscape demands a far more intelligent approach. Smart solar systems equipped with advanced metering and energy management software can optimise self-consumption, export surplus electricity when economically viable, and support demand response programs as these markets mature.

The business case for smart solar has never been stronger. According to the IEA PVPS Trends 2025 report, global installed solar capacity exceeded 2,260 GW by the end of 2024 after another record year of deployment, highlighting the rapid maturity and affordability of solar technologies. India alone added approximately 32 GW of solar capacity during 2024, reinforcing its position as one of the world's fastest-growing solar markets.

The commercial rooftop segment is also gathering pace. Mercom India reported that rooftop solar installations reached 7.1 GW in 2025, more than doubling compared to the previous year. While residential installations led growth, commercial and industrial adoption continues to accelerate as businesses seek predictable energy costs and stronger sustainability performance.

Sustainability expectations are further accelerating this transformation. Investors, customers, and global supply chains increasingly evaluate companies on measurable ESG performance. Smart solar systems provide verifiable energy and emissions data, enabling organisations to accurately track carbon reductions, support sustainability reporting, and meet increasingly stringent disclosure requirements.

Looking ahead, commercial energy management will extend beyond standalone rooftop installations. The future lies in integrated energy ecosystems where solar generation, battery storage, electric vehicle charging, AI-powered forecasting, and intelligent building management systems operate seamlessly together.
