In the bustling industrial belt of MIDC Nashik, Maharashtra, a quiet revolution is unfolding – one that blends sustainability with smart economics. Neelay Industries, a precision manufacturing firm rooted in the heart of this industrial hub, is making a powerful statement by switching to rooftop solar energy. What began as an initiative soon evolved into a broader commitment. The adoption reflects not just a shift in energy sourcing but a shift in mindset toward efficiency, resilience, and environmental responsibility.
With a total rooftop solar capacity of 622 kWp, Neelay Industries partnered with solar provider Orb Energy to deploy a customised solar solution that met its plant’s specific energy needs. The installation features 1,383 high-efficiency 450Wp solar panels and a mix of powerful inverters, including 120 kVA, 60 kVA, and three 100 kVA units. Together, they form a robust, high-performance system that now powers a large portion of the company’s daytime electricity consumption.
The results speak for themselves. The solar setup is delivering annual savings of INR 23 lakh – an impressive return that is expected to recover the total investment within just 3 years and 5 months. Post payback, the plant will continue to benefit from decades of clean, low-cost power. But the decision wasn’t purely financial. It was also driven by trust and partnership.
Sagar Girase, Managing Director of Neelay Industries, shared that the main reason they chose Orb Energy was because the company manufactures its own solar panels and manages installation through its in-house technical team. He also highlighted Orb’s flexible solar financing options. After installing rooftop solar with Orb, Neelay Industries found that the savings from solar energy exceeded the EMI payments for the financing. Pleased with the product and service, the company has placed additional orders with Orb Energy, totalling 1.4 MW for their remaining facilities in Nashik and Amravati.
The adoption of solar energy has allowed the company to reduce its carbon footprint significantly while also insulating itself from rising power tariffs and the unpredictability of the conventional grid. It’s a strategic move that blends long-term thinking with immediate gains – a model increasingly relevant for Indian manufacturers navigating a rapidly evolving energy landscape.
Damian Miller, Co-Founder and CEO of Orb Energy expressed pride in supporting forward-thinking companies like Neelay Industries in their transition to solar. He emphasised that Orb Energy's goal is to provide long-term savings and energy independence through customised, high-performance solar installations.
As India pushes ahead with its renewable energy ambitions, Neelay Industries offers a compelling case study on how clean energy can be seamlessly integrated into core manufacturing operations. Their journey is a powerful reminder that sustainability is no longer a nice-to-have; it’s a strategic imperative. In the factories of tomorrow, energy efficiency will be just as critical as production output and solar power may very well be the silent engine driving that transformation.
