Power Electricity Prices in India and the Way Forward

The competitive power prices discovered through the Exchange helped build about 20 GW of merchant capacity out of 370 GW of installed capacity in the country. This capacity is not committed under 25-year agreement and essentially sells on competitive prices through the short-term market. One Nation, One Grid, One Price could become a reality due to price signals from the market which led to considerable investments towards augmentation and reinforcement of the transmission system.

How Drones are Revolutionising the Power Sector

Marred with power theft, loss of power during transmission and damage to property, power sector in India is a tangled mess. Most of these concerns can be solved by the use of drones. However, India’s policy on the usage of drones is vague at best, making it difficult for the sector to adopt drones for a variety of use-cases.

How can the storage amplify your solar projects?

The intermittent nature of renewable energy and the limitations on its ability to fluctuate according to demand lead to the waste of a certain amount of capacity. Energy banking has already been adopted to tackle this setback. Although, this has led to numerous regulatory issues springing up such as banking directly impacts the financial viability of Distribution Companies, which have lately begun restricting banking facilities.

Thermal Power Plants Should Comply with New Emission Norms in Post COVID-19 World

Base load power demand in India being such that coal-fired thermal power plants still account for over 70% of India’s electricity. So, we can expect thermal power to continue to occupy the top slot for quite some time to come, and we need to make strategies to mitigate risk of carbon emissions, pollution, and climate change by adopting technologies that lower coal consumption on one end and reduce emissions on another.

Electricity Markets: Paradigm Shift in State’s Power Sector

The electricity market is still evolving in India. Innovative mechanisms such as exchange-based financial products, spot market pricing and, better revenue protection mechanisms (like contract for differences) could potentially open up more opportunities for the inter-state RE exchange in the near future. However, it is important to have aclear understanding of market rules, incentive structures and contractual arrangements.

Residential PV Systems: Making Lightning Protection Design More Effective

For residential PV systems, the type I and type II, two lightning strikes are the most common: direct lightning and induced lightning strikes. If the property is in a lightning-prone area or there are other high metal objects on the rooftop, e.g. solar thermal heaters, water tanks or satellite antenna, the probability of these two lightning strikes will be higher. It is necessary to enhance and strengthen the lightning protection during the design stage.
