With an aim to develop cost-effective and scalable green hydrogen technology, PEM electrolysers specialist Ohmium International has entered into a three-year collaboration with CSIR-CECRI to sponsor the latter’s research into new materials to support the next generation electrolyzer technology.

The CSIR-Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CSIR- CECRI) has been located at Karaikudi in Tamil Nadu and is India’s one of the leading electrochemical research centres.

Commenting on the partnership, Dr. Chockkalingam Karuppiah, Chief Technology Officer, Ohmium, said “CECRI is recognized as a world leader in electrochemical research. This sponsorship enables Ohmium to leverage CECRI’s deep expertise and resources, which will benefit both our current and the next-generation technology.”

“We’re delighted to work with a technology leader like Ohmium. Our research efforts will focus on material innovation, deployable as sustainable solution provider,” Dr. Kalaiselvi, Director, CSIR-CECRI added.

“One of the things that makes Ohmium really special is our ability to rapidly translate R&D advances into actual production. It’s a function of our people, our unique modular technology, and powerful collaborations like this one with CECRI,” Arne Ballentine, CEO of Ohmium International concluded.

The world must make a transition to Green Hydrogen to meet its Net-Zero emission targets. Ohmium’s collaboration with CSIR- CECRI will help ensure that not only is green hydrogen cost-effective but also globally scalable to meet the world’s demand.

United States-headquartered Ohmium has its manufacturing in India and operations around the world. The company enables industries to deploy green hydrogen for a sustainable future. Its suite of electrochemical products enables customers to achieve maximum value in industrial, transportation and energy projects.

Founded in 1948, CECRI provides end-to-end solutions to major electrochemical industries as a consulting partner in research projects. Currently, CSIR-CECRI has over 262 employees including 93 scientists representing the largest research organization in electrochemistry in South Asia.

The organisation’s research and development activities cover the entire spectrum of electrochemical science and technology, viz. Corrosion and Materials Protection, Electrochemical Power Sources, Electroplating and Metal Finishing, Electrodics and Electrocatalysis, Electrochemical Process Engineering, Electro-organic & Materials Electrochemistry.

Besides, CSIR- CECRI is the only research institute in India that runs a unique four-year B.Tech course in Chemical and Electrochemical Engineering, which is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai.
