Product Profile > Solarscan Yieldmaster EL

Today’s major challenges in Photovoltaic production are the continuous optimization of solar cell efficiencies and at the same time the reduction of manufacturing costs. ISRA SOLAR VISION, a business unit of ISRA VISION AG, Darmstadt, Germany, provides the complete range of state-of-the-art high-efficiency inspection systems that enable PV manufacturers to master these challenges. With the new generation electroluminescence (EL) inspection system, the leading supplier of best-in-class solar inspection systems has achieved another quantum leap in the high-accuracy inspection of solar cells: SOLARSCAN-EL Multispectral Dual provides the most accurate defect classification resulting in the lowest false detection and therefore lowest false downgrading rates on the market. At triple inspection speed it is also the industry’s fastest electroluminescence inspection. This way, the latest inspection avoid defects that are invisible to the human eye, leading to a three percent increase in maximum quality yield and remarkable cost savings though the reduction of material loss in solar cell production. More than enough reasons for the global PV industry to apply the smart ISRA SOLAR VISION inspection solutions.

The innovative high-speed in-line SOLARSCAN YIELDMASTER EL inspection systems offer the industry’s highest repeatability and detection rates resulting in the a superior inspection performance providing a clear value add to PV manufacturers. The new generation electroluminescence inspection is able to characterize solar elements during the mass production. Additionally it provides the reliable distinction between material defects such as dislocations, changes in the material, foreign objects in the silicon etc., as well as process defects (cracks, finger interruptions, low efficiency regions, scratches, etc.) by the characterization of solar cells with the new multispectral inspection method. This enables cell manufacturers to improve the quality control of the basic material leading to a significant increase in high-quality yield.

Making the Invisible Visible at Highest Inspection Speeds

The most remarkable improvements of the new EL inspection compared to conventional EL systems are an increase of maximum quality yield by three percent, a reduction of false downgrading by a factor of six through highest measurement accuracy as well as triple inspection speed through fastest image processing. The new generation EL system is able to detect and classify a large spectrum of attributes including but not limited to visible and invisible cracks, breaks, shunts, finger interruptions and leakage of electricity, series resistances, dark and in-active regions, black edging, firing defects, dislocations, grain boundaries, clusters, hot spots, scratches, broken pieces, pollution, and material defects on solar cells.

Solar cell manufacturers benefit from the optimized parameters of the electroluminescence inspection technology: For the new SOLARSCAN-YIELDMASTER EL system the imaging time could be reduced by a factor of eight compared to conventional EL methods, which require long cycle times for image capture and analysis. The system boosts image acquisition and calculation speed leading to triple inspection speed. This way, up to 3,600 solar cells per hour can be inspected.

Less Material Loss through Lowest False Detection Rates

Another quantum leap in multispectral electroluminescence inspection is the reduction of the false detection rate by more than a factor of six, down to under 0.5 percent, resulting in a significantly higher output of immaculate cells. Due to poor detection rates, conventional EL systems waste too much material in solar production. However, SOLARSCAN-EL discriminates electrical defects from non-critical optical effects resulting in an enormous lower amount of lost A-grade solar cells. This way the new inspection system supports solar cell manufacturers to increase the production efficiency in terms of reduced manufacturing costs and enhanced product quality.

Modular Design for Easy Integration in Production Environments

The modular architecture of the new electroluminescence system allows the integration into new or existing production lines and fulfills varying inspection requirements for solar cells. SOLARSCAN-EL enables cell manufacturers to reliably detect hidden defects that are not visible to the human eye at the industry’s highest inspection speeds and most accurate defect classification and the lowest false downgrading rates.
Through the achievement of a three percent increase in A-grade cells, an overall yield improvement by triple inspection speed and a reduced material loss by a factor of six, automated electroluminescence inspection with ISRA SOLAR VISION technologies results in significant cost savings, higher quality products, lower production losses, increased productivity and altogether in higher customer satisfaction.
