Interview (Mr.ShankarKarnik)

Mr.ShankarKarnik,
General Manager Industrial at ExxonMobil Lubricants Private Limited

“Energetica India: What is an ‘energy efficient lubrication program’? What are some of the key factors that buyers should keep in mind for choosing lubricants that deliver energy efficiency?”

Shankar Karnik:An energy efficient lubrication program covers good lubrication practices and choosing lubricants that help the operations in an industrial unit become energy smart and efficient. Buyers usually go in for lubrication programs that help them achieve their business goals of productivity profitability, safety and environmental protection.

The highly trained representatives at ExxonMobil work closely with buyers to explore and understand how advanced lubrication programs can help them achieve their business goals. We support their decision making on four questions -- How can power related costs be lowered? How can equipment life be enhanced? How can safety be ensured through minimized maintenance risk? How can the impact on the environment be minimized?

We support their decision making on four questions -- How can power related costs be lowered? How can equipment life be enhanced? How can safety be ensured through minimized maintenance risk? How can the impact on the environment be minimized?

For instance, one of our customers, Manjushree Technopack, a leading rigid plastics packaging convertor in India and South Asia, was looking to reduce operation and maintenance costs and maximize productivity. We recommended Mobil DTE 10 Excel™ 46. Its shear stable, high viscosity index (VI) allows for a wide operating temperature range maintaining maximum hydraulic efficiency and component protection at extreme temperatures. Switching to Mobil DTE 10 Excel 46 has resulted in a 2% increase in energy efficiency at the Manjushree Technopak plant, with annual savings of around $19,950.

“Energetica India:What kind of energy efficient lubricants does ExxonMobil offer in the wind energy sector?”

Shankar Karnik:ExxonMobil has a range of high performance lubricants for the wind sector that enable advancing productivity in wind farms. Our advanced wind turbine gear oil, Mobil SHC™ Gear 320 WT has been awarded a Conformity Statement by DNV GL, among the world’s leading certification bodies for renewable energy projects. The statement confirms that the lubricant meets international wind turbine performance requirements and customer needs. Mobil SHC Gear 320 WT is the only dedicated wind industry oil to receive this accolade, so far.

In addition, we have a few more specific lubrication solutions for the wind sector such as Mobil SHC Gear 320 WT, SHC™ Grease 102 WT and Mobil SHC™ Grease 460 WT. Mobil SHC Grease 102 WT is a new synthetic grease, which protects wind turbine bearings from extreme temperature conditions, ranging from 120 degrees Celsius to -50 degrees Celsius. Mobil SHC Grease 460 WT is a superior performance lubricant, widely used by leading wind turbine builders across India and the world for their main bearings.
Used in over 40,000 wind turbine gear boxes globally, ExxonMobil’s lubrication solutions for the wind sector are formulated for improved efficiency and productivity, which lead to longevity of assets and longer oil life. Longer oil life means less frequent oil change, which further ensures the safety and security of the wind mill operator and long-term profitability.
