Torrent Power Receives Sanction to Obtain Wind Power at Rs. 3.27/kWh in Gujarat

The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has announced that as a reply to an evaluation petition filed by the CLP Power Private Limited, has set Rs 3.27 as the tariff in the power purchase agreement signed between Torrent and CLP for the purchase of 49.6 MW of wind power.

CLP Power Private Limited in its appeal had requested the commission to direct Torrent Power to extend the PPA for the transaction of 49.6 MW of wind power project by 10 years.

“CLP Power Private Limited and Torrent Power Limited settled for the period of power purchase from the project for period of 10 years and it was also decided by the parties that once the alleged period is completed it will be subject to further extension,” the commission said while examining the petitions and the following submissions.

The commission further stated that “the concession of Rs. 0.10 per unit offered by the Petitioner in the tariff of Rs. 3.37 per unit set by the Commission and stated in the PPA dated 14.10.2008 is at par with the tariff of Rs. 2.44 per unit revealed under the competitive bidding carried out by GUVNL, if transmission losses and transmission charges are added therein.”

The commission noted that Torrent Power Limited was keen to acquire power from 49.6 MW of wind projects for an extended 10-year period if the tariff is reserved at Rs 3.27.

The commission while disposing off the appeal upholds that “We deem the aforesaid submission of the Respondent (Torrent) as a shared agreement with the Petitioner (CLP Power Private Limited) for extension of the PPA for a further period 10 years after December 31, 2018.”
