Shan Solar, the Bangalore headquartered solar PV Module manufacturer, solar park developer and EPC contractor, has announced that its Mono & Poly Crystalline photovoltaic solar modules (both series having option of 60 cells and 72 cells) have successfully passed the Potential Induced Degradation (PID) administered by independent testing laboratory TÜV Rheinland. Under test conditions SHAN Solar modules demonstrated a power loss of less than one per cent and in the process obtained “Class A” rating which very few companies in the world have achieved.
The solar modules manufactured by SHAN Solar did not show any signs of PID and the output loss of SHAN modules was found to be less than one per cent. PID test measures the resistance of the solar modules for surviving harsh field operational conditions, that potentially may affect the performance of individual modules as well as the overall power output & efficiency of entire solar power plants. It may be noted that for modules to pass the PID test the degradation must not exceed 5 %.
TÜV Rheinland PID test is in accordance with the draft IEC standard from NREL. Under this test SHAN’s modules were assessed by TUV Rheinland for power output under severe conditions: negative voltage of 1000 V at ambient temperature and relative humidity, 168-hour period by wrapping conductive foil. The result showed that SHAN Solar modules are “PID free” with a power degradation of less than one per cent. This third party testing reiterated the high quality and high reliability of SHAN Solar’s modules and authenticated its quality focused manufacturing process.
“With PID free modules in our offerings portfolio we are confident of breaking new barriers in the highly competitive solar domain. The “Class A” rating will encourage us to aggressively bid for mega scale projects where the efficiency of entire solar power plant is very critical to justify the return on investment (ROI),” said Mr. Sury Singapur, Chairman & Managing Director, SHAN Solar.
Commending SHAN Solar for manufacturing “PID free” modules, Mr. Kalyan Varma, Country Head - Products, TÜV Rheinland, said, “With solar module business being commoditized there is a need for niche players to raise the quality bar to differentiate itself from the competition. This is what SHAN Solar has done and this differentiation will help the company attract discerning customers and be counted as preferred module supplier. With PID less than one per cent SHAN Solar modules will definitely be more efficient and thus an ideal choice for megawatt scale projects.” Further, he said, our “PID test” is far more rigorous as we believe that only this can ensure quality and in turn assure financial return and peace of mind for end use customers.
According to Mr. T V L Narasimha Rao, Chief Technology Officer & Vice President, SHAN Solar, “This PID free module rating is another testimony to our world class production facility & processes followed and reflects on the vision of the company to manufacture the best in class modules using superior raw materials that offers our customers advanced products.” Also, he added, this achievement will enable us to further strengthen our relationship with our valuable clients and enhance our reputation as the preferred module supplier.
