Jump to the comments

Power Secretary P. Umashankar is set to address international Transformer manufacturers during a signature event planned next month in Delhi. Joining him will be Mr. R N Nayak, Chairman and Managing Director of Power Grid Corporation of India as the Guest of Honour.
The Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers' Association (IEEMA) – India’s apex industry body representing the manufacturers of electrical, industrial electronics and allied equipments – will be organizing TRAFOTECH-2012 a global networking forum where these two stalwarts will meet international Transformer players and exchange ideas to give a major fillip to the Rs. 12,400 crore Indian Transformer industry.
The Indian Transformer industry is growing at 8 % CAGR for the last 5 years and it comprises primarily of Power & Distribution Transformer manufacturers. Technological advancement in the Transformer industry is key to Rs 1,10,000 crore Power industry. Investment in transmission is critical considering that electricity generated at a power plant has to be transmitted to the nearest grid via step-up transformers and then to the state grid via step up or step down transformers. Further electricity is transmitted to a power station and then distribution transformers are used to transmit power from the sub-transmission point to end consumers.
The Transmission & Distribution (T&D) sector – of which Transformers is a critical part – will be investing Rs 640,000 crore in capex in the next 5-6 years and hence it is important to get the right technology, review, share operational experiences with global players and discuss requirements for emerging market scenarios. TRAFOTECH which will be held on August 6th-7th, 2012 at India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi, will foster awareness about best practices for transport, storage, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance and asset management of large power transformers.
More than 400 delegates from across the Power transformer industry, both domestic & overseas including power generation companies (GENCOS), transmission companies (TRANSCOS), distribution companies (DISCOMS), Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) , National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) , National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC), Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL)  public & private utilities, service providers like transporters/logistics providers , consultants and blue chip companies etc. will be participating in this two day event covering seven focused sessions of 90 minutes each, presented by global experts.
