Philips Lighting names South Asia CEO Harsh Chitale as CEO of its Business Group Professional

Philips Lighting (Euronext Amsterdam ticker: LIGHT), a global leader in lighting, today announced that Harsh Chitale, CEO – South Asia, Philips Lighting,has been appointed CEO of its Business Group Professional, reporting directly to CEO Eric Rondolat. For his new role, Chitale will relocate to the Netherlands on September 1.

Sumit Joshi, Head of Marketing Excellence, will succeed Chitale as CEO – South Asia, reporting to Murali Sivaraman, Market Group Leader - Growth Markets at Philips Lighting.

Philips Lighting has a long tradition of building global talent.Philips Lighting’s South Asian operations have steadily contributed to the global organization. This year alone more than two dozen employees from the operations inSouth Asia have taken up global and regional roles at the parent company across Europe and Asia.

“The new appointments reflect the company’s commitment to leadership development and our tradition of growing talent across markets,” said Sivaraman.“This also emphasizes the importance of the South Asian operations for Philips Lighting. I would like to thank Harsh for his contribution to the business. Under his leadership, we significantly expanded our market leadership in LED and Professional lighting and accelerated our pace of innovation by building a strong local R&D capability. I am pleased to welcome Sumit to his new role. I am confident that he will build on our strong momentum and drive the South Asian business further," Sivaraman added.

Chitale led the South Asian business of Philips Lighting since January 2015,helping to drive the company’s leadership in the fast growing LED and Professional businesses, further consolidating the company’s position as the largest lighting company in South Asia.

“South Asia is a critically important market for Philips Lighting and we are committed to this market. We have an excellent team and I look forward to returning to India to further grow our business and expand our market leadership in the region,” said Joshi.

Sumit joined Philips in 2011 as Marketing Director for Philips Lighting India. In his latest role as Global Head of Marketing Excellence, Sumit was instrumental in leading global initiatives in Marketing Excellence including global marketing planning and execution. He brings more than 19 years of experience in marketing and business leadership roles, including in India as Head of Marketing for Philips Lighting.
