Oldbaum give high-five to Women in Renewables
Wind energy consultancy Oldbaum Services is delighted to become the newest corporate member of WiREScotland.
Women in Renewable Energy Scotland (WiRES) is a network which was set up for women working, or who would like to work, in renewable energy.
Oldbaum fully support the WiRES group - which has been raising awareness since 2010. Our male and female team members have witnessed for themselves the prevalence of men working in the industry when attending renewable conferences around the world. According to the team, such events expose an 80-20 male-female ratio.
This highlights the fact that women are significantly under-represented in the sector, and is further emphasized by Energy & Utility Skills’ research which estimates that 17% of the energy sector’s workforce is female.
Oldbaum’s Managing Director Monica Griesbaum said: “We are very pleased to be able to support the aims of WiRES and are looking forward to working together encouraging more women to work in this very exciting and international industry.”
The aim of the WiRES network is to make a difference and attempt to increase the number of women participating in renewables. Oldbaum intend to take part in regular networking sessions, a mentoring programme, as well as spreading the message – and inspiring women to work in a flourishing sector.
Gail Watt, Chair of the WiRES steering group, said: “We are delighted to welcome Oldbaum Services as a corporate member of WiRES. It is fantastic to see such enthusiastic support from both Oldbaum management and employees. With the support of our newest corporate member, WiRES hopes to contribute to increasing the diversity of the sector, and raise awareness of the benefits to businesses who support their female employees. We are looking forward to working with Oldbaum.”
