NRDC COP21 Advisory: Top India Environment Official to Offer Climate Negotiation Insights

The Government of India’s Susheel Kumar, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, (MOEFCC) will offer his insights into the international climate deal taking shape in Paris at an exclusive media briefing to be held on December 4, 2015 in the Le Bourget Press Conference Room 3.

At the midpoint of the climate negotiations, Additional Secretary Kumar will discuss India’s pivotal role and key strategies to reduce emissions intensity and grow a low-carbon economy, centered on the rapid expansion of the renewable energy market. MOEFCC ministers represent the Government of India at COP21, in addition to overseeing implementation of domestic environmental and forestry policies and programs.

Experts from leading environmental policy organizations will also be available to reflect on the negotiations so far and discuss ongoing and new efforts, along with challenges, to achieving India’s INDCs. Experts include Dr. Srinath Reddy, President of the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), Anjali Jaiswal, India Director of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), and Jake Schmidt, International Program Director of NRDC.
