CleanMax Solar Begins Supply From Karnataka’s first solar park to Leading IT Company in B'lore

Jump to the comments

CleanMax Solar, India’s largest supplier of solar power to corporates, has commissioned Karnataka’s first solar farm, and has begun power supply to Mindtree, a leading technology services and digital transformation company. The solar farm is located in Tumkur district, and has a total capacity of 30 MW. Power will be supplied via the BESCOM grid to consumers in Bangalore like Mindtree.

The supply of solar power began in August, and will satisfy 75% of the power requirement at the Whitefield campus of Mindtree. It is a significant step towards sustainable energy for Mindtree, and it is the first IT company in India to source such a large proportion of power from solar for a single facility. The solar power supply to Mindtree will reduce approximately 2800 tons of carbon footprint annually, and will also generate significant energy cost savings for Mindtree, without incurring any capital expenditure.

CleanMax’s solar farm has been developed under the Karnataka Solar Policy, which waives transmission and wheeling charges and cross-subsidy charges for solar power for 10 years, for solar farms commissioned prior to 31st March, 2018. CleanMax has already begun work on its second solar farm in the state, and is planning additional installations of more than 200 MW in the state in the next 18 months.

Sharing his views with regards to the recent association with Mindtree, Andrew Hines, Head – South India Business Development, CleanMax Solar, said, “It gives us immense pleasure to be associated with Mindtree, a leader in the information technology industry and a firm which is taking serious steps towards sustainability in its operations. Switching to renewable power is the single largest step an IT company can take in reducing its carbon footprint. Thanks to Karnataka’s solar policy, consumers like Mindtree can shift most of their electricity to solar power, with zero investment and at a significant discount to grid tariffs.”

Mr. Hines further added, “CleanMax is proud to have been the first developer to commission a solar farm in Karnataka, and to devote this capacity to helping corporates go solar. This is an important complement to our rooftop solar offering, by which we have helped dozens of large corporates go solar across India, and where we are industry leaders. We see major growth going forward in both rooftop and grid-connected solar, as the environmental and financial benefits for corporates are very significant.

“We are pleased to be associated with CleanMax Solar to power our energy needs in a sustainable manner. This initiative will be effective in reducing our carbon footprint, while saving costs at minimal investments. Mindtree has a strong legacy of environmental stewardship, and we believe that the adoption of renewable energy sources like solar power, and sustainable practices will go a long way towards creating a cleaner environment”, said Mr. Padmanabhan Kannan, General Manager - Administration and Facilities, Mindtree.
